The Vidal Teleportation
A couple driving near Buenos Aires were said to have entered a fog, and woken up in their car in Mexico two days later.
What was reported
In 1968, a story spread across Argentina and then the world: a couple named Vidal, driving near Chascomús at night, had entered a thick fog. The next thing they knew, they were on a road in Mexico, 6,000 km away, two days later, with their car scorched.
The story was repeated in books and magazines for decades as one of the strangest UFO cases ever recorded.
Explanations offered
Researchers who tried to trace the couple never found them, or anyone who had met them. Journalist Alejandro Agostinelli showed that an Argentine film with a very similar plot, about a couple teleported by a flying saucer, had been made the year before and was released soon after the rumour spread. The case appears to have been a publicity stunt.
