The Lights Over Punjab and Jammu
One evening, a long line of lights glided silently across the sky over north India, one after another.
What was reported
In June 2021, people in Junagadh, Gujarat, filmed a line of bright lights moving steadily across the night sky. In December 2021, a similar trail of lights was seen over Pathankot in Punjab and in border areas of Jammu, lasting a few minutes.
Near the border, some feared drones. Videos spread quickly, and many people wondered whether they were seeing UFOs.
Explanations offered
Police and defence sources said the lights were a 'train' of Starlink satellites, launched in batches by SpaceX. Soon after launch, they fly close together in a line and reflect sunlight while the ground below is dark. Similar sightings have been reported around the world.
