The Gulf Breeze Photographs
A Florida builder took dozens of photographs of a glowing craft over his town. Years later, a model was found in his old house.
What was reported
In November 1987, Ed Walters, a builder in the small town of Gulf Breeze, Florida, sent the local newspaper photographs of a glowing, cylinder-shaped craft hovering near his home. Over the following months he produced dozens more, and said he had been visited by the beings that flew it.
Many other residents reported lights in the sky, and the town became a centre of UFO interest, with crowds gathering at night.
Explanations offered
In 1990, the family who bought Walters's former house said they found a small model of a UFO hidden in the attic, very similar to the craft in his photos. Walters said it was planted. Most researchers consider his photographs a hoax, though some local sightings of lights were never explained.
