The Emilcin Encounter
Early one morning, a Polish farmer driving his horse cart said two small, green-faced figures climbed up beside him.
What was reported
Early on 10 May 1978, Jan Wolski, a 71-year-old farmer, was driving his horse-drawn cart through the woods near Emilcin in eastern Poland when, he said, two short figures with greenish faces and slanted eyes jumped onto the cart and sat beside him, talking in a language he didn't understand.
He said they directed him to a clearing where a large white object hovered, and invited him on board, where he was examined. Wolski went home and told his family; investigators later found him consistent and sincere.
Explanations offered
No physical evidence was found, and the case relies on Wolski's account, with a few people saying they saw something unusual that morning. Sceptics suggest a dream or a misremembered experience. It remains Poland's best-known UFO case, and a small monument now stands in Emilcin.
