Elizabeth Klarer
A South African woman said a craft landed on the slopes of the Drakensberg and its pilot took her to his planet.
What was reported
Elizabeth Klarer, who lived in Natal, said she'd seen strange craft over the Drakensberg mountains since childhood. In the 1950s, she said, one landed near her family's farm below Cathkin Peak, and its pilot, a tall, fair-haired man named Akon, invited her aboard.
In her book Beyond the Light Barrier she wrote that Akon was a scientist from a planet she called Meton, in the Alpha Centauri system, and that she had lived there for a time and had his son. She lectured about her experiences internationally.
Explanations offered
No independent witness or physical evidence supports her account, which follows the pattern of 1950s 'contactee' stories such as George Adamski's. Supporters note she was well educated and consistent; sceptics regard the story as sincere fantasy or invention.
