Cadborosaurus
Off the coast of British Columbia, people report a long sea serpent with a horse-like head, nicknamed Caddy.
What was reported
Since the 1930s, people along the coast of British Columbia and Washington state have reported a long, serpent-like animal in the sea, with a head like a horse or camel and humps along its back. A Victoria newspaper editor named it Cadborosaurus, 'Caddy' for short, after Cadboro Bay.
Coastal First Nations traditions also include sea creatures, and in 1937, whalers photographed a strange carcass found in a whale's stomach that some believed was a young Caddy.
Explanations offered
The 1937 remains were never kept or tested, and many think they were a fish or another known animal. Suggested explanations for sightings include sea lions swimming in a line, oarfish, elephant seals and floating kelp. No specimen has been confirmed.
