The Beast of Bray Road
Drivers on a country road in Wisconsin said they saw a wolf-like animal that stood up on two legs.
What was reported
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, several people around Elkhorn, in southern Wisconsin, said they'd seen a large, hairy, dog- or wolf-like animal along Bray Road, a quiet route through farmland. Some said it crouched by the roadside and stood up on its hind legs.
The local reporter Linda Godfrey wrote about the sightings for the Walworth County Week in 1991, and the story spread across the country. She went on to collect many similar 'dogman' reports from across the Midwest.
Explanations offered
Suggested explanations include large dogs, wolves or coyotes, a bear standing upright, and mistakes in poor light, especially from a moving car. No body, clear photograph or other physical evidence has been found.
