Someone called out from the tea garden three times. Each time, closer.
We were sitting in the estate quarters. The first call came from far away, like someone asking the way. The second came from the edge of the garden.
The third came from right outside the door, very softly, like someone speaking into your ear. Nobody opened the door. In the morning there was no one in the garden.
