Something heavy walked near the tent in the night. We assumed a bear. In the morning we found the prints. Two feet, upright, like a person walking, but with strides longer than the three of us lying end to end.

The prints led up to the ridge and ended on bare rock. Our porter looked at them, took off his cap, and began packing without a word.
