Something was swimming alongside the ferry. River dolphins don't get that big.
The ferry was moving slowly. On the right, under the water, was a long dark shape as long as the boat. It kept our speed exactly, never ahead, never behind.
The boatman slowed the engine. The shape slowed too. As the bank came close it sank away without making a ripple.
