The Yukon Sighting of 1996
On a winter night in the Yukon, people in several villages saw a huge, slow object covered in lights.
What was reported
On the evening of 11 December 1996, people in and between Fox Lake, Carmacks and Pelly Crossing, along the Klondike Highway, reported a very large object with rows of lights moving slowly and silently overhead. Some described it as bigger than several football fields.
Researchers who collected the accounts later found about thirty witnesses, and built a model of the object from their descriptions.
Explanations offered
Sceptics suggest a meteor or a satellite re-entering the atmosphere, which can produce long trails of lights, though these move fast and many witnesses described something slow. No official explanation was given, and no film exists.
