Nahuelito
In a deep, cold lake in Patagonia, people report a long creature with humps moving through the water.
What was reported
Nahuel Huapi is a large, deep glacial lake near Bariloche in Argentine Patagonia. Since the early 20th century, people have reported a large creature in it, usually described as having humps or a long neck. It is affectionately known as Nahuelito.
Sightings have continued over the decades, and photographs said to show it have appeared in local newspapers, though none is clear.
Explanations offered
Suggested explanations include waves and wind patterns on the lake, floating logs, large fish and swimming animals. No physical evidence has been found. Nahuelito has become a local mascot, like the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland.
