The Lake Worth Monster
Fort Worth's newspaper reported a hairy 'goat-man' that leapt onto a car by the lake.
What was reported
In July 1969, police in Fort Worth took a report from three couples who said a large, hairy creature, part man and part goat, had jumped from a tree onto their car near Lake Worth and scratched it. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram ran the story under the headline 'Fishy Man-Goat Terrifies Couples Parked at Lake Worth'.
Crowds went looking for it, and some said they saw it throw a tyre at them from a bluff. A local woman, Sallie Ann Clarke, wrote a book about the sightings.
Explanations offered
Many think the sightings were pranks, perhaps a young man in a costume, amplified by publicity and excitement. A blurry photograph from that year has never been identified. The story is still celebrated locally.
