The Kumburgaz Videos
Over many nights, a night watchman on the Sea of Marmara filmed glowing objects that, zoomed in, seemed to show shapes inside.
What was reported
Between 2007 and 2009, Yalçın Yalman, a night watchman at a holiday complex in Kumburgaz on the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul, filmed bright objects over the water on many nights. Zoomed in, some of the footage appears to show disc-shaped objects, and some viewers say they can see figures inside.
A Turkish UFO research group released the videos, and a Turkish scientific body was reported to have found no signs of digital editing. The footage drew international attention.
Explanations offered
Sceptics suggest the objects were planets, stars or lights on ships, made to look strange by the camera's zoom and focus, or that some footage was staged with models. No independent analysis has settled what the videos show.
