The Belgian UFO Wave
Two police officers reported a silent triangle with lights at each corner, gliding low over the fields.
What was reported
Starting in late November 1989, thousands of people across Belgium reported large, silent, triangular craft with bright lights underneath. Two police officers near Eupen gave one of the first detailed reports.
On the night of 30–31 March 1990, the Belgian Air Force sent two F-16 fighter jets after radar contacts. Unusually, the Air Force discussed the results in public.
Explanations offered
No single explanation covers the wave. The best-known photo of a triangle was later admitted to be a hoax, and some radar returns have been put down to weather effects. Many individual sightings remain unexplained.
