The Alien Autopsy Film
Grainy film of doctors examining a body from Roswell was shown on television around the world.
What was reported
On 5 May 1995 the London businessman Ray Santilli showed invited guests at the Museum of London a black-and-white film he said came from a retired US military cameraman. It appeared to show doctors carrying out an autopsy on a pale, humanoid body recovered after the Roswell crash of 1947.
The film was broadcast in many countries that year, including on the Fox network in the US, and drew huge audiences.
Explanations offered
Experts in film, medicine and special effects found many problems with it. In 2006 Santilli said the film was a 'restoration' he had staged, after original footage he claimed to have seen had decayed. The sculptor John Humphreys said he made the body.
